An Study Of The Strategies Of Notes In Consecutive Interpreting In Light Of Gile's Effort Model

Based on Gile's Effort Model,this practice report analyzes the importance of the role of notes in consecutive interpreting.Dividing into two parts of "note-taking" and"note-reading",notes make great influence on consecutive interpreting,which run through the whole process of interpreting.According to Gile's Effort Model,if the effort of note is not well-distributed,the rest parts will inevitably be affected.How to effectively take and read notes is an important content for interpreting learners.The main purpose of this practice report is to focus on analyzing the important role of notes in consecutive interpreting and to propose specific strategies to deal with the factors which affect the quality of notes.This practice report summarizes the important influence of notes in consecutive interpreting in two phases of Gile's Effort Model by analyzing and summarizing the records,notes and the whole process of simulative interpreting.After concluding the problems,the author identifies the specific strategies to deal with those problems,strives to improve the overall level of interpreting through those strategies.The first and the second parts of this report mainly describe the background,preparation and specific interpreting process of this simulative interpreting.Through the preparation of the first two chapters,the author has a general guideline for the contents of this simulative interpreting and the practice report which need to be completed.The third part is the most important chapter of this practice report which focuses on the good effects of high-quality notes on the result of interpreting during the two phases of effort distribution.For low-quality notes,this practice report emphatically analyzes the factors which affect the quality of notes and the coping strategies in view of these factors.In the third part,the author takes the method of case analysis,chooses the typical cases,and proposes the corresponding solution.These typical problems are also frequent problems for interpreting learners and even interpreters.Therefore,this practice report aims to provide interpreting learners with possible coping strategies when encountering problems during interpreting practice and help them to improve their interpreting quality eventually.The fourth part is the conclusion based on the first three chapters' analysis.Based on the important influence of notes in consecutive interpreting,the quality of notes has an important impact on the interpreting results.In addition,in the fourth part,the report also analyzes the limitations of this practice report,hoping to continue to improve the theoretical and practical research in the future.Gile's Effort Model is an important theory in the history of interpreting research.Notes are the important links in Gile's Effort Model.Therefore,through this report,the author could have a more comprehensive and profound understanding of the role of notes in consecutive interpreting under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model.Interpreters could adjust effort distribution in the course of interpreting when encountering problems to ensure the accuracy and fidelity of output and strive to improve the quality of interpreting.
