A Report On Tourism Escort Interpreting

This report is written based on the escort interpreting the author practiced for a tour group visiting Xiangxi(western Hunan)attractions in October 2018.The clients came from Villara Building System,an American building company.Therefore,the author was invited to be the escort interpreter for them during their tour.The attractions mainly include Zhangjiajie National Forest Park,Huanglongdong Cave,Furong Ancient Town,Dehang Miao Village and Fenghuang Ancient City.The interpreting involves the description of the landscape of Zhangjiajie,the formation of the terrain,local minority culture and customs.In the process of interpreting,the local myths and legends,folk culture and customs,and the geological knowledge on landforms and its geomorphic process are the most difficult parts.To ensure that the tourists could understand the transmitted information clearly,under the guidance of interpretive theory and functional equivalence theory,the interpreter applied a series of interpreting techniques to assure smoothy and efficient communication,such as amplification,omission,transliteration with annotation,explanation,substitution and so on.The application of those interpreting techniques has been proved effective in terms of spreading the cultural and natural connotation of Xiangxi attractions.This report consists of four chapters: description of the project,the process of the project,case analysis and reflection from the project.It is expected that this report will provide some valuable guidance for tourism escorting interpreters in Xiangxi regions.
