When They Were Together is a short but excellent book written by Bi Feiyu,a famous writer and the 8th Maodun Literature Award Winner.This book was published by Chongqing University Press on August 1,2011.With an interweave of reality and history,this book is simple in language but rich in content.This book is a collection of novels,among which the novel translated by the author consists of 10026 words.By presenting a realistic picture of human nature,this novel successfully creates an emotional connection between readers and the main characters and gets readers into a state of anxiety or coziness.Although the title of this novel,When They Were Together,shows how deep the couple loved each other,readers can tell the bitterness indicated in the story.This novel can be classified as erotic literature as the story provides a perfect illustration of how sex is separated from love and marriage.Besides,the issues focused on in this novel have also aroused attention as well as contemplation of scholars in the fieldTranslation of the novel was carried out under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,the core of German functionalist translation theory.Besides,the analysis of specific translation cases was made in combination with the three principles of the Skopos Theory.From the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax,and text,this report analyzes the reproduction of the three principles of purpose,coherence,and faithfulness in the Skopos Theory and discusses the corresponding translation strategies and methodsThis translation report consists of four chapters,which includes the description of the translation task,the process of the translation,the analysis of individual cases,and the summary of the translation practice.The first chapter provides a description of the source of the translation task,a brief introduction of the original novel,and the significance of this translation project.The second chapter of this report focuses on the preparation and how the first draft and the revised version are completed.In the third chapter,an analysis of the translation strategies is provided.The last chapter summarizes the limitations and implications of the translation process.
