Jewish immigrants from Central Europe flooded into the United States affected by political,economic,legal status and other factors in the mid-nineteenth century,and injected new ideas and vitality into American Judaism.Among immigrants,German Jews with reform ideas accounted for a large proportion.At the same time,the tolerant social atmosphere and economic opportunities in the United States have also provided possibility for internal reforms in Judaism.Together,they have promoted the rise and development of the American Reform movement.Reform Judaism believes that Judaism is an ethical religion,and advocates the application of Judaism's ethical standards to society.The development of American laissez-faire capitalism in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries produced many social disadvantages.Under influenced by progressive and Christian social gospel movements,based on the call for social justice in the Jewish classics such as the Bible and the Talmud,The Reform Judaism put forward the idea of "economic justice" and actively promoted social justice.The "economic justice" thoughts of the Reform Judaism include its ideas on labor,social security and resources and the environment protect.In practices,Firstly,emphasize the protection of worker rights,specifically involving trade union and employment rights,wage equality,job security,unemployment insurance,and basic living wages;Secondly,requires strengthening social security,calling for the redistribution of social wealth by taxation so that applied in areas where people's basic survival needs such as medical security,housing,food,and old-age care are needed to ensure the sharing of wealth for the whole people and provide the last line of defense for those disadvantaged and vulnerable groups;Finally,the Reform also advocated the promotion of the rational use of natural resources and the sustainable development of human society,and guaranteed equal rights to other creatures and future generations living on the earth.The "economic justice" idea of Reform Judaism is the inheritance and development of Judaism's justice thought.Based on the Judaism classics and the tradition of justice,it advocates actively participating in social life in the modern era and fighting for justice for all;and,the Reform Judaism has systematically paid attention to the problem of "economic justice" in American society earlier,and is highly organized in its actions.In terms of its influence,the "economic justice" idea of Reform Judaism has promoted the development of Judaism's internal ideas and enriched the ideological connotation of modern Judaism;at the same time,the interaction with Christianity in thought and action is also deeper and wider deepens the understanding of "economic justice" and promotes better cooperation between them;finally,the "economic justice" ideas and actions of Reform Judaism have promoted the progress of American society to a certain extent and fought for the lower and middle peoples to improve their quality of life.
