Consecutive interpreting(CI),as a complex type of cross-cultural exchange, requires the interpreter to receive, absorb and analyze the original speech in order to organize and produce the message in the target language. It poses a great challenge to the interpreter in terms of memory, understanding and expressive faculties. This report is an analysis of the author's simulated E-C consecutive interpretation recording of "Conversation with the Chairman:A Teacher Town Hall Meeting" based on Gile's Effort Model.According to Gile,CI consists of two phases and can be summarized with the following equations:phase one,I=L+N+M+C;phase two,I=Rem+Read+P.In order to produce desired CI performance, the following conditions must be met:the processing capacity requirements combined must not exceed the total available capacity, and for each effort the capacity required should not exceed the available capacity.Otherwise, the interpreter would experience mental saturation with an obvious negative effect on the interpreting performance. The author analyzes this simulated interpreting from three aspects, namely preparation, difficulties during the interpreting process and solutions.Through the analysis, the author draws the conclusion that first, interpreting quality can be improved by preparation, concentration on listening effort, and assistant notes;second, the situation where the interpreter misses certain information due to the distraction of note taking should be avoided. This report is the author's reflection on the interpreting performance, and it also can serve as an example of energy allocation, providing other interpreters with some insights into the prioritization of all the interpreting efforts.
