A Report On The Translation Of Political News Text In Light Of Skopos Theory

More than 70% of the world's news is written and disseminated in English.With the rapid development of China's economy and the significant trend of globalization,it is more and more urgent for people to know news and information at home and abroad.Consequently,the translation of English news to Chinese has played an important role in the cultural exchange between China and the West,which puts forward higher requirements for the quality of translation.However,due to the different language cultures of Chinese and English and the characteristics of political news,there are many difficulties in translating political news.As a result,some translations make it difficult for the target readers to understand,even cause misunderstanding and lose the function of reading.According to Skopos theory,the whole translation process should be carried out closely around the purpose of translation,and the translation task can be successfully completed only by choosing appropriate translation methods when the purpose of translation and the expected function of the target text are clearly defined.Therefore,the attempts to apply The Skopos theory into the translation of English political news to Chinese to make the target language coherent and natural are of great values.Global Times(English Version)is an authoritative national English-language newspaper.Based on the three rules of Skopos theory,27 political news releases are selected as the corpus,all of which are from authoritative media at home and abroad,such as Reuters and Xinhua News Agency,to analyze the features of the source text from the three aspects of vocabulary,sentence,and text,and discuss the guiding role of Skopos theory in the translation of English political news to Chinese with detailed cases.Practice has proven that under the guidance of Skopos theory,a more reasonable translation can be achieved,so as to be better understood and accepted by the target language readers and realize the communicative purpose of the translation more effectively,providing a reference for the future news translation.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 34.
