Viewing The Translation Of English Political News From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

News reading is one of the ways for people to know the world;thus the translation of English political news is of great significance to the communication between Chinese and western cultures.Translation, however, is both trans-cultural and trans-lingual.Skopos theory lays stress on the function of the target text and the readers of the target language.The translation of English political news should take on the characteristics of jounalistic language, such as vivid words and compact sentences.Nevertheless,the linguistic and cultural differences have given rise to great difficulties in political news translation.The thesis presents different translation strategies under the guidance of Skopos theory that puts emphasis on the Skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule for the Chinese translation of English political news,words and sentences in particular. Literal translation or liberal translation can be rendered for the coherent and faithful translation of words in English political news.On the basis of hypotaxis in English and parataxis in Chinese, two steps can be distilled for the conversion from English to Chinese sentences----division and transformation,during which the translator should reorder the sentences logically.
