A Report On E-C Translation Of Autobiography

Translation of autobiography can bridge the gap between countries with different languages,cultures,customs and ways of thinking.One of the most typical features of autobiography is the integration of authenticity and literariness.Based on Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,the author takes the excerpts of It Was Me All Along written by Andie Mitchell as the source text.Semantic translation emphasizes keeping close to the source text,while communicative translation attaches more emphasis to the effect of the target text on the readers.Newmark notes that semantic translation and communicative translation are so closely related that they cannot be kept apart.The main emphasis of the report is to translate long and difficult sentences by adopting semantic translation and communicative translation.Firstly,the report briefly describes the translation task,including the background of the task,the introduction to the source text,and the stylistic features of autobiography.Secondly,it describes the process of translation,including the preparation for translation,the translation process and the revision of translation.What's more,case analysis is the most significant part,which covers the introduction to Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,features of the source text,as well as translation methods to deal with long and difficult sentences,including literal translation,original syntactic order,addition,omission,adaptation and sentence reconstruction.In addition,the author points out the knowledge and experiences gained from this translation of autobiography.Finally,the last part points out the limitations,gives the suggestions for the translator during the translation process and makes a whole conclusion of the translation task.The thesis is aimed to arouse attentions and offer referential value to the translation of autobiography.
