Dongba Script As Material In Art And The Evolution Of It

This paper mainly discusses the use and evolution of Dongba characters in art.Through exploration and development,the Dongba characters in art develop constantly.From the traditional form of painting to an art form with characteristics of the new era,like graphic design and animation.By studying the use of Dongba characters in painting,this paper sums up its visual symbol features and the abstract meaning behind the image symbols.Dongba characters,as aesthetics symbols and cultural elements with a long history,Dongba characters have unique aesthetic taste and belief,which contains high value in art practise.From four aspects of painting,design,animation and my now practise,this paper will discuss how Doumba Characters,as artistic symbols,make their artistic value and features in different art forms.The first chapter discusses the content,purpose,significance of this paper and research status globally.The main content of the study is to analyse the artistic features of Dongba characters as image symbols in different art forms.This paper classifies the art forms and studies the aesthetic features of Dongba characters through painting,design and animation.The purpose and significance of the study is to demonstrate that Dongba script,a traditional Nakhi symbol,is a cultural symbol of special nature,and it is not only a kind of forgotten pictogram,it's the ICONOGRAPHY that shapes the history,culture,and aesthetic value of Nakhi people.As the main body,I will analyses the features of visual symbols and cultural symbols of Dongba script,and reflects the different meanings behind it by blending with different art forms.The study of Dongba script in China is relatively more than that in other countries.Linguists and national culture researchers in China have made a relatively detailed study of Dongba script through different fields such as linguistics and semiotics.The second chapter mainly describes the artistic features of Dongba characters and Dongba painting,and break down the process of the evolution of Doumba characters inpainting,from the earliest wood-plate painting to the scroll painting “Map of the Holy Path”,and finally to the modern Dongba painting,it describes the whole history of Dongba painting development and the artistic value and idea presented in different times.By studying the visual symbolic features of Doumba characters and the abstract meanings behind the symbols,it shows us a clearly understanding of the text as a symbol of art,which not only a unique visual feature but a meaningful cultural symbol.This paper analyses the features of Dongba characters in painting and the ideas by giving examples of the works of Hepinzheng and Zhang Chunhe,the representative artists of Dongba painting school.The third and fourth chapters are looking at how Dongba characters reflects on different artistic characteristics from the angle of graphic design and animation art.These two kinds of art forms are evolved from the painting,with the development of science and technology,more and more art forms have appeared.In the graphic design,we mainly study the two potential advantages of Dongba characters,that is,the story of Biblical mythology and the ecological concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.This paper expounds the advantages of Dongba characters in graphic design,and discusses the characteristics of Dongba characters in story and the ecological concept to be conveyed by combining the Japanese artist Katsumi Asaba's typography and packaging design.The fourth chapter mainly launches with the animation art language,discussing Dongba character in the animation to embody its pictographic,the succinctness,which explains these three characteristics concretely from the vision modelling.New Art Forms and ancient cultures collide and merge with each other,reflecting the cultural and aesthetic values of Dongba script in different times.The experimental short film "Twenty-five Dongba characters" is given as an example to analyze the using Dongba characters in animation language from three modeling features.The fifth chapter is about the making process of my previous art works and how I came up with the idea of my degree show work.I would demonstrate it in creative idea,artistic language,production and presentation.There is a clearly path link from the previous work to the recent work.It has always been about the transformation of Dongba images in art practise.From the painting at the beginning to the new art form,which brings the ancient culture into line with the new era and create more new possibilities visually and conceptually.
