As the ensyclopedia of Naxi, the Dongba scripture is the main carrier of the Dongba culture. The range of the content of Dongba scripture is very extensive, involving language, script, history, astronomy, geography, calendar, religion, folk-custom, literature, and so on.Language and script are the base of the study of the Dongba scripture. For years many scholars (such as Lock,Li lincan, Fang Guoyu,Yu Suisheng, Li Jingsheng, Wang Yuanlu, ect) have studied the Dongba script, and have got an abundant of results. But few of them has specialized in a particular sutra. And it is hardly to find an entire book which unscrambles the sources of the words of a particular sutra, pointing out trope such as under, counting words and classes of methods of forming letters. So in this article, I have chosen the eighty ninth volume of Complete Work of Translations ofNaxi Dongba Ancient Books-Da ji feng·release souls from purgatory making chump to carry outdetail explain of word and study.The first part of this article is the interpretating segment. In this part, the writer laid emphasis on analyzing every word, pointing out the method of forming and using word, the character and main variant and pronunciation of every word, and counting out words (including situations such as words just having sound and words just having letters),on the basis of the comparison between original text and four paramiters. The purpose is to show the panorama of sutra by means of comparison and explanation.The second part is the study segment. In this part, because predecessors had studied a few things coming down to the written character of Dongba writing, the writer induced and analyzed simply about Dongba writing from stokes to elements, while compared with Maya writing. Then I enumerated some questions about lang which deserve further discussion, and introduced my ideas. At last, I collated all of the words in the sura, classified on methods of forming letters, and formed a dictionary of the sutra, to prepare for composing dictionary.
