A Translation Practice Report Of Social Science Texts With The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

This report is guided by functional equivalence theory.The source text is excerpted from the first chapter of the book Language and Gender.The language of social science texts is professional,logical and complex.In view of this,the translator adopts flexible translation techniques to translate the source text and sums up the characteristics of social science texts in the translation process.Besides,the translator tries to convey real and effective information to the target readers,so that they can get the same feedback as the original readers.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory,the translator analyzes the typical cases in the first chapter of the book Language and Gender from lexical,syntactical and textual level.The translator focuses on the application of translation techniques,such as meaning selection and extension,annotation,conversion,division,addition,reconstruction,conjunction and so on.In the case analysis,the translator compares the original translation version with the polished version,summarizes the reason for using different translation techniques and the highlight of the polished one.Through this translation practice,the following conclusion can be drawn: functional equivalence theory is effective to guide the translation of social science texts and achieve equivalence at lexical,syntactical and textual level.Finally,the report aims to provide reference for future translators.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 30...
