A Study On Rolston's Ecological Holism Thought

The relationship between man and nature is an eternal topic in the history of human thought and the definition of this issue is closely related to the construction of ecological ethics.Facing the current serious natural environment problem,ecological holism has become the focus of academic discussion.The American environment ethicist Rolston,known as the "father of environment ethics",constructed his ecological ethics system on the basis of ecological holism.The study of his ecological holism will conduce to deepen our understanding of the relationship between human and nature and find reasonable theoretical support for the construction and improvement of ecological ethics.This paper discusses from three aspects.First,from two angles of time and academic combing Rolston ecological holism thought background and find its theoretical basis.Secondly,focused on Rolston's ecological holism.It takes the loose ecosystem as the object of concern and pays more attention to the overall interests of the ecosystem.It takes the natural axiology as the core.The natural value reflects the ecosystem is an indivisible whole from the two aspects of existence form and architecture.It aims at the poetic dwelling of human beings and put forward the principles that different subjects should follow.Finally,it is reasonable to introduce ecosystem into the object of moral concern and bury the gap between fact and value.Meanwhile,his thoughts weakened the value of human and by overemphasizing the connection between natural things showed the limitation of his thoughts.But his attention to the ecological sustainable development,strengthen the ecological construction of legal system and develop the ecological character has much enlightenment to the construction of ecological civilization in our country.The paper clarifying the source and basis of Rolston's ecological holism thought through historical analysis;Through the comparative research clear his main thought connotation and the advantages and disadvantages;By causal analysis method to find the ultimate goal of his thought is to inhabit poetically.
