An E-C Translation Report On The Way We Eat Now-Strategies For Eating In A World Of Change(Chapter7)

This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text is Chapter 7 entitled eating by rules,selected from the work The Way We Eat Now—Strategies for Eating in a World of Change,whose author is a well-known British food writer and historian,Bee Wilson.The selected text mainly introduces new phenomena existing in people's diets exposing some problems.Based on the fact,the author accordingly puts forward her own viewpoints.Through the translation practice,the translator aims at employing translation methods flexibly so as to resolve problems in translation.In order to ensure that the target text can reproduce contents and language features of the source text faithfully and accurately,the translator checks plenty of information and parallel texts,studies the source text repeatedly and analyses the selected text.The report mainly expounds difficulties encountered and their corresponding methods in translation.For difficulties in this translation practice,the translator analyses them from lexical level and syntactic level.As for lexical level,difficulties are mostly in translating proper nouns.In terms of syntactic level,problems involve translation of complex compound sentences such as attributive clauses and adverbial clauses.In the light of difficulties in translation,the translator adopts different methods and techniques respectively.The translator uses annotation in translating proper nouns and amplification and conversion of parts of speech to deal with translation of other vocabularies.At syntactic level,the translator mainly employs four methods including linear translation,recasting translation,division and combination.The last part of the report is a conclusion of gains and lessons from the translation report.Through the translation practice,the translator hopes to deepen understanding and learning about translation methods,and at the same time also to accumulate valuable experience in learning about translation for the future.
