Two chapters(i.e.Terms and specialized vocabulary: Taming the prototypes and Terminology and translation)from Handbook of Terminology--Volume 1 are selected as the source text of the English-Chinese practice. The translation report first compares stative English with dynamic Chinese and analyzes their distinctive features, and then explains how to convert stative English into dynamic Chinese at the lexical level in detail. In the translation report, the translator elaborates on how to transform the English nouns, prepositions, adjectives, and adverbs into Chinese verbs in English-Chinese translation and illustrates the strategies with some examples from the source text that the translator has dealt with during the period of her postgraduate study.Besides, based on a comparative analysis between English and Chinese, the translator will provide several useful opinions on verb prominence in Chinese. The translation report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One briefly describes the background of the source text, and offers a short introduction to the language features of the source text.Chapter Two sketches out the process of the translation.Chapter Three and Chapter Four are the main body of the paper.Chapter Three compares stative English with dynamic Chinese and analyzes their distinctive features. On the basis of the analysis in Chapter Three,Chapter Four comes up with some tentative strategies for English-Chinese translation and illustrates them with examples.Chapter Five recapitulates the main points of the translation report and makes a brief summary.
