Report On Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpreting Of The Round-table Dialogue On The Themed Of Belt And Road Strategy,New Opportunities,New Development

This project selects a round-table dialogue titled Belt and Road Strategy,New Opportunities,New Development as a material for a mimic Chinese-English consecutive interpreting.This meeting aims to help promote competitiveness of start-ups along Belt and Road Initiative and invites successful entrepreneurs to share their development experiences and opportunity of business.In this simulated C-E consecutive interpreting,speakers always have redundant information in the process of speaking.Although it doesn't affect the transformation of speakers' meaning,it brings possible problems to the interpreter.This is the main difficulty of this interpreting task,which mainly involves redundant information on the semantic level and redundant information on contextual level.Accordingly,this report mainly reports and discusses the following two types of interpreting difficulties:(1)difficulties in interpreting redundancy on semantic level;(2)difficulties in interpreting redundancy on contextual level.This report is based on the Interpretive Theory proposed by D.Seleskovitch(1978)and M.Lederer(1994).The main purpose of interpretation is to express the speaker's intention accurately and completely in target language in a concise way.Therefore,in order to eliminate the difficulties in interpreting redundancy,interpreters need to aim at the logic of the source language,break the language shell,and take appropriate tactics so as to accurately express the real intention of the speaker to the target audience in a way consistent with the target language expression habits toachieve a better communication.In terms of the proposed difficulties,coping tactics are adopted as follows:Firstly,regarding difficulties in interpreting redundancy on semantic level,the tactics of generalizing repeated words or meanings and substituting identical expressions are adopted;Secondly,as for difficulties in interpreting redundancy on contextual level,the tactics of omitting excessive information and reducing superfluous expressions are adopted.In the practice of interpreting this project,the above tactics are effective in coping with redundant information which helps the author complete the simulated C-E consecutive interpreting and has a guiding significance for similar scenes and types of consecutive interpreting.
