A Report On Trans-editing News For The Chairman's Bao Platform

With the rapid development of China,a growing number of foreigners are curious about what happens every day in China.And with the emergence of online media,bilingual news websites,by virtue of their advantages in language and medium,have gradually become one of the important channels for foreigners to know more about China and learn Chinese.However for non-Chinese speakers who want to know more about China and learn Chinese,a comprehensive news-based graded Chinese website is a priority.Thus,trans-editing news from English to Chinese plays an important role in the development of Chinese news websites.Therefore,focusing on how to improve the quality and efficiency of trans-editing news from English to Chinese at news-based graded Chinese website is of great theoretical and practical significance.The author has been trans-editing English news to Chinese news for The Chairman's Bao Platform,the first Chinese learning website for non-Chinese speaker in the world,for almost 2 years.Now this website has 40000 users around the globe.The report is based on trans-editing English news related to China to Chinese news for The Chairman's Bao Platform.It is structured in five main chapters:(1)Introduction of The Chairman's Bao Platform and the trans-editing task;(2)Description of process,including reference information collection,choosing a theme,translating news and editing news;(4)Case study,focusing on the difficulties in trans-editing online news,such as choosing the best theme,trans-editing the headline and lead and adapting news to a certain levels;(5)Solutions to the difficulties,referring to some trans-editing theories and strategies to deal with difficulties in trans-editing news;(6)Conclusions,summarizing some basic principles and standards of online news trans-editing.In addition to this,the remaining hurdles faced during this task are discussed as well.Trans-editing strategy is still seen as a mature translation strategy,used in the field,such as tourism,science and technology,but rarely used in online news translation.The online news is special,featuring two characteristics: literariness and timeliness.“Change”,contrary to the “faithfulness” of the news,is the key to trans-editing strategy.Therefore,based on the trans-editing strategy and the characteristic of English news,this thesis explores the feasibility of trans-editing news.It is also hoped that this report can provide some reference for the translator in the online news translation.
