With the comprehensive development of China, new things and new phenomena emerge endlessly,of which the typical sign is that lots of neologisms continue to spring up.A column has been set up in China Daily to make a research on the neologism translation. However, problems do exist in the translation of Chinese neologisms. As a result,it is quite necessary to study the translation of Chinese neologisms. In this thesis, the author combines the translation of Chinese neologisms in China Daily with domestication and foreignization to discuss the application of these two strategies in the translation of Chinese neologisms.Generally speaking, the study has four main findings:(1)the selection of domestication and foreignization is affected by text type of the original works, language proficiency of translators, translation goal of translators, levels of the target readers and so on;(2)the strategies of domestication and foreignization have their own advantages. The proper use of domestication and foreignization can not only disseminate Chinese culture but also increase the readability;(3)the growing comprehensive national strength of China enables foreignization to be adopted with increasing frequency;(4)translators should not only improve their accomplishment in English but also in Chinese. The thesis shows the mutually-reinforcing relation between these two translation strategies, and the idea that a thing should be considered on its own terms is put forward.Domestication and foreignization have their own advantages,as a consequence, when translating, translators should properly combine these two strategies so that the translation works can be accepted by the target readers and a bridge of understanding and communication between China and foreign countries can be built.
