An E-C Translation Practice Report Based On Political News In The Times

Since the 1990 s,the trend of globalization has become increasingly prominent in which China has more close exchanges with western countries.The translation of political news from western mainstream media is particular important.English political news has attracted people?s great attention because of its timeliness,objectivity and suddenness.The Times is a British mainstream newspaper whose reports are authoritative and objective,including politics,commerce,finance,sports,radio and television,entertainment and commentary.The newspaper?s report style is serious,with substantial content and humorous expressions.It?s one of the important medias for Chinese people to understand foreign current affairs.Besides,it?s translation directly affects the accuracy of people?s understanding of foreign news.This translation practice report aims to analyze the characteristics and language style of western political news,and to meet people?s needs to understand global current affairs.In this translation practice,the translator selects news items of The Times,from July to November in 2018,because the news of this period mainly focuses on the process and future development of Brexit.The author finds that we can not only consider the equivalence of language during the translation of political news,but also need to compare cultural differences between countries.Moreover,in terms of thinking and expression,there are differences between English and Chinese.Th is requires that we need to utilize some translation techniques to flexibly tackle the differences in expression between English and Chinese.On this basis,by combining the purpose,loyalty and coherence principles of Skopos theory,the author adopts the two basic translation strategies of speech conversion and addition to deal with the translation problems at news vocabulary level.Besides,for long and difficult sentences,the translator adopts changes of voices,division and adjustment of word orders.The author hopes that the goals of political news translation to spread information and attract readers can be achieved.
