The linear classification model based on"time-history"has always been favored by humanistic research such as the history of thoughts and art history.Affected by this,the study of Chinese art history also basically follows the logic of time writing of historical stages.Since the 20th century,the importance of space dimensions has been reiterated by the western ideology field,and the rise of"spatial turn"in theory provides new horizons and methodologies for the study of art history,and"space"has gradually become a key word in art history research.In recent years,Wu Hung has reexamined the space issue of art history on the basis of cases studies of art history,making"space"an important dimension and unique perspective of his entire art history research.By integrating and reflecting on his research on the history of art over the years,he gradually formed a framework for observing,describing,and interpreting works of art,and the discourse system centered on the"space"element has gradually formed.In the study of art history,he used spatial logic as the important evidence to interpret images,utensils,and"comprehensive art".He focused on spatial narrative,opened up a new perspective for the study of art history,and enlighten methodological implications.Based on Wu Hung's art history writings,combining specific art history research cases,this paper attempts to sort out the core concepts of"space"in Wu Hung's art history studies and the application of these space concepts in analyzing art works,and generalizes the connotations and using significance of different space concepts,and tries to reveal the advantages and potential of spatial analysis in the study of art history.The paper divides into four chapters.The first part is the introduction,which mainly sorts out the current situation of Wu Hung's art history research at home and abroad,and clarifies research methods,research significance and the main content of this paper.The second part mainly discusses the historical background and reasons of Wu Hung's prominent spatial factors in the study of art history.First,since the 20th century,the concept of space has undergone important changes in the human ideological circle.Theorists began to reiterate the importance of space,and put forward a series of important a series of important judgments on space issues,and corresponding space theories emerged,which laid a precedent and reliable historical soil for Wu Hung's research.Secondly,traditional art history research has been inclined to create and interpret art works from a time-historical perspective,ignoring the importance of spatial factors to some degree,which is not conducive to revealing the richness and complexity of art works.The third part is the core content of this paper,which is divided into three chapters for discussion.Firstly,it discusses the application of the concept of space in the analysis of images and objects,and summarizes and explains the two spatial research methods of"visual space"and"pictorial space"and the spatial factors in the analysis of objects.And attempts to illustrate the methodological advantages of spatial analysis in revealing the visual structure and content of independent images and artifacts.Secondly,focusing on Wu Hung's research on traditional Chinese feminine image painting and ancient tomb art,this paper emphasizes on explaining the connotation and analysis methods of its"feminine space"and"burial space",and tries to explain that the spatial analysis breaks through the division of traditional art categories such as images,objects,and architecture,and provides the possibility to reveal the richness and complexity of"comprehensive art".The last part is the conclusion of this article,explaining the value and significance of"space"as a method in the study of art history.Firstly,it breaks the boundaries between art history materials such as images,objects,and architecture in terms of research object,and build the original connection among various art history materials.Secondly,it connects and integrates the"internal space"and"external space"of art works,which is helpful to deeply dig out the rich meaning of art works.
