The E-C Translation Report On My Dear Hamilton (Chapters 13-14)

This is an E-C translation report based on Chapter 13 and Chapter 14 of the book My Dear Hamilton,whose authors are Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie.The book focuses on the whole life of the Eliza Schuyler Hamilton,who is the wife of Alexander Hamilton,the America's first finance minister.The two chapters describe a story that the Eliza Schuyler Hamilton fought together with her husband during the later period of the War of American Revolution and the early period of the foundation of American government.In the report,it gives an introduction to the background and the significance,and makes a brief analysis of the source text.And then,it puts an emphasis on discussing translation difficulties and translation methods at lexical level and syntactic level.At lexical level,it discusses the translation of proper nouns and non-finite verbs.In the translation of proper nouns,besides looking up them in dictionaries and parallel texts,the translator adopts methods of transliteration and annotation,and in the translation of non-finite verbs,the translator adopts methods of class shifts and unit shifts.At syntactic level,it discusses the translation of attributive clauses and compound-complex sentences.In the translation of attributive clauses,the translator adopts methods of preposition and postposition,and in the translation of compound-complex sentences,the translator adopts methods of division and combination.In the end,the report makes a summary of translation difficulties and translation methods,and describes some lessons and experience that the translator has learnt from it.
