The content of this English-Chinese translation practice is selected from the suspense novel Where the Forest Meets the Stars.It is an Amazon Charts,Wall Street Journal and Washington Post bestseller in 2019,and written by Glendy Vanderah.The source text mainly narrates a mysterious child teaches two strangers how to love and trust again.And up to now,there has been no Chinese version of this book.According to the difficulties and challenges in translation,the translator chose the chapters 1 to 5,7,9,20,and 21 of the novel as the translation practice.And finally the translator completed the translation practice report and summarized the translation methods the translator applied in the process of translation.This translation practice report first presents the translation task,the author,the source text and structure of the report.Then the report introduces the translation process.In addition,this report lays emphasis on the translation difficulties encountered in the process of translation and the methods used by the translator.At lexical level,the translator used annotation and selection of word meaning.At syntactic level,the translator adopted the following methods free translation and reinventing sentence structure.At textual level,the translator applied the methods of repetition and adding modal particles.Finally the translator summarized the translation practice,including major findings,limitations and suggestions of the translation.Through this translation practice,the translator has accumulated some translation experience,and has mastered more translation skills and methods especially in literary translation.The experience in translation gained will be the guidance of the translator's translation work in the future,and is hoped to provide referential suggestions to the translators participating in the translation practice of similar texts.
