Government documents, which are vital for China's internal and external publicity, are the main way for both domestic and foreign readers to understand China. However, whether their English translations can accurately convey the meaning of original texts has been controversial.Category terms,a vital part of government documents, also have the same problem,so the problem still needs to be studied in order to find solutions.Based on Hu's Eco-translatology,this thesis has analyzed the application and implication of five commonly-used Chinese category terms(??????????????)in reports on the government work from 2015 to 2019,the Report at the 19th CPC National Congress and other websites as well as their typical C-E translation problems, finding that the C-E translation of category terms in these documents cannot adapt to the target language's eco-environment.The concrete problems are:(1)failing to carry out adaptive-selection in language;(2)failing to carry out adaptive-selection in culture;(3)failing to carry out adaptive-selection in communication. To solve these problems, this thesis has proposed three corresponding C-E translation solutions:(1)making linguistic conversion by considering terms' implications;(2)making cultural conversion by considering terms' contexts;(3)making communicative conversion by considering their intentions.Practice proves that above solutions are effective to solve problems of translating category terms in government documents and improve the quality of later translation.
