A Report On The E-C Translation Of Ceylon Electricity Board Bidding Documents

This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of Ceylon Electricity Board Bidding Documents.The source text was given by a foreign trade company.The translation helps the company to better grasp the text information and set up corresponding strategies.In recent years,in the process of frequent foreign trade,bidding has become a common form of transaction in the world.The bidding documents are the invitation documents issued by the tenderee to the potential bidders to inform the project demands,rules and some contract information,which are the basis of the project,and are legally binding on both parties.The bidding documents are mainly written in English,so it is necessary to study the translation of such documents.This report mainly includes task description,source text analysis,case analysis and conclusion.The author first introduces the basic information of the task,describing the significance,background and process of the task.Then,the author analyzes the stylistic features of the source text,and explains the difficulties of translation from the lexical and syntactic aspects.By reading the document,the author finds that the text has the following language features: the use of rigorous words,formal language,more terminologies,complex sentence structures,etc.,thus the translation difficulties lie in such aspects: terminology,modal verb “shall”,long sentence and contract sentence;by analyzing the text to their occurrences,the author dissects the translation.Finally,the author summarizes the report.On the one hand,the author has gained a lot of translation experience,and strives to apply these experiences to translation practice;on the other hand,the author also summarizes the shortcomings in translation practice and proposes suggestions for future translations.
