A Report On The Translation Of Language,Mind And Body:A Conceptual History(Chapter 7-8)

The selected translation text of this report,Language,Mind and Body: A Conceptual History,chronicles the origin and development of language from such perspectives as linguistics,philosophy,cognitive science,psychology and so on.Based on the translation practice of Chapter Seven and Chapter Eight of this book,the case analysis is under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory.According to Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,there are four basic requirements of translation,namely,“making sense”,“conveying the spirit of the original text”,“having a natural and easy form of expression” and “producing a similar response”,which play a significant role in guiding the translation of the whole text.Through the analysis of specific cases,the author analyzes the translation difficulties encountered in the process of translation from terminology,long and complex sentences and style,and summarizes some specific translation methods.For the translation of terminology,standardized translation,context-oriented translation and proper translation plus source terms can be adopted;for the translation of long and complex sentences,the methods of linear translation,division and recasting are employed;for the transfer of the style,it can be solved by the use of four-character words and expressions and keeping the logicality of the original text.Through the translation practice,the author deeply realized that academic translation requires accurate understanding of the original text firstly,and flexible employment of specific translation methods to convey the original text under the guidance of appropriate translation theories.Through this translation practice and the writing of the translation report,the translator hopes to provide some references for future academic translation.
