This thesis is a practice report on Chinese-English liaison interpreting in Shenyang Railway Exhibition Gallery. On June 30,2019,the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China Shenyang Chapter invited foreign guests to visit the Shenyang Railway Exhibition Gallery. The author was responsible for interpreting during the entire activity, which lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes. This interpreting practice mainly includes knowledge about the history of Shenyang and railways, and the types of locomotives. This interpreting practice requires the author to have professional knowledge and proficient bilingual conversion ability.By reviewing the record of the interpreting practice, the author found that she was inadequate in the ability mentioned above, which caused the imbalance of her energy distribution, and further led to improper omissions in the practice.Based on Barik's classification of omission, the author classifies improper omissions in the practice into four categories: skipping omission, comprehension omission, delay omission, and compounding omission.Relying on Gile's “effort model”,the author analyse the four types of improper omission and fingers out four reasons for them: information loss, incompetence in logical clarification, incompetence in split of attention, and incompetence in primary message identification.Based on the classification of improper omission, the author proposes two strategies: semantic integration and textual compensation. With these coping strategies, the improper omissions in the interpreting practice are effectively reduced. Finally, the author summarizes the major findings of the thesis, and points out the current limitations and floats the suggestions for future practice.
