Cui Daorong,who is also called Dong Ou San Ren,is a native of Jing Zhou.He spent his life in Hubei,Henan,Shanxi,Jiangxi,Zhejiang and Fujian province.He lived in seclusion in his early years and then became an official in Fujian.He also died here.Cui Daorong isn't one of the most significant poets of the Late-Tang Dynasty,but his poetry creation is also worthy of praise.Xin Wenfang,the famous commenter of Yuan Dynasty,also praised his poems.Now only seventy-nine of his poems are still exist.Most of them are quatrains and they all have subtle meanings.Cui Daorong's poetic achievement hasn't been paid enough attention by the academic circle.There are only few studies on him and his poems now,which also bring lots of difficulties to the research.This paper could only do the research on Cui Daorong's life and poetry based on the existing data.It's the best thing if this paper could show the value of his poetry.This paper discusses Cui Daorong's life and poetry.It is divided into three parts,including introduction,text and appendix.The introduction part discusses the social background of Cui Daorong's poetry creation,briefly introduces the classification of poets' group and the school of poetry in the Late-Tang Dynasty.It also discusses the background and significance of the research,and gives a summary of the research on Cui Daorong's poetry.The main body is divided into five chapters: the first chapter discusses the life experience of Cui Daorong,and introduces his family lineage,official experience,life travel,and friends.The second chapter is about the research on his poems.It studies the circulation and record of his poems,through making a form,we can see the acceptance of his poems.At the same time,this part also does a research on his poems which are in doubt or lost today.The third chapter analyzes the subject and the content of the poems,and divides them into four categories: the scenery,the instant feelings,the history and the boudoir repining.The fourth chapter analyzes the techniques of expression in the poems,including the methods of refiningwords,personification,contrast and allusion.It also introduces other methods like repeting words,metaphor,metonymy,words with double meaning,description of characters,changing others' words and so on.The fifth chapter summarizes the styles of his poems,including the tender feelings,the cold artistic conception and the ordinary words.The last appendix takes “the Full Poetry of the Tang Dynasty” as the base,notes the words and allusions in his poems,and summarizes the comments on his poems in past dynasties.It is supposed to provide a version of Cui Daorong's poetry for readers.
