A Simultaneous Interpreting Practice Report On The "Opening Ceremony Speeches Of 2019 China-South Asia & Southeast Asia Arts Week" Under The Guidance Of The Skopos Theory

Yunnan province is China's southwestern bridgehead.It is closely related to South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.In order to enhance Yunnan's soft power of culture,promote bonds and friendship of the Chinese people and the people of South Asia and Southeast Asia,further expand the influence of Yunnan and China as well as boost the comprehensive cooperation and development among China,South Asia and Southeast Asia,the 2019 China-South Asia & Southeast Asia Arts Week was held in Kunming,Yunnan in June 2019.The opening ceremony of the Arts Week was a great opportunity for promoting the international artistic exchanges.The author was honored to serve as the interpreter for the opening ceremony speeches.This report is based on the author's actual interpretation practice for the opening ceremony speeches of the 2019 China-South Asia & Southeast Asia Arts Week.The speeches at the opening ceremony are used as the original texts to carry out the interpretation analysis.The report has faithfully recorded the interpretation process from the preparation stage to the end.Under the guidance of the skopos theory proposed by Hans Vermeer and the rules of the theory,the author has summarized the practical problems,difficulties,solutions and interpretation skills like amplification,omission and conversion etc.in the process of Chinese-English and English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting to see how an interpretation task could be completed accurately and efficiently.The author hopes this simultaneous interpreting practice will provide a reference for the future simultaneous interpreting of the similar topics.The report mainly consists of five parts.The first part is the description of the task,including the background,source,features,objectives and significance of the task.The second part is the introduction of the interpreting process,from the preliminary preparation to the evaluations after the task are involved.The third part is the theoretical framework.The author focuses on the introduction and the application of the skopos theory.The fourth part is the case studies,which shows the author's strategies and skills to solve the problems of the interpretation.The fifth part is the summary of difficulties,experiences and suggestions for the future interpreting work.
