A Report On The Consecutive Interpreting For A Visit To Zhangye Danxia Landform

The"Belt and Road"Initiative,which was proposed by President Xi Jinping in September 2013 in Kazakhstan,has boosted the tourism development of provinces,regions and cities along the Silk Road.An increasing number of foreigners who love ancient Chinese civilization begin to pay attention to this mysterious country,and in particular-its unique scenic spots.Zhangye Danxia Landform,one of the"seven most beautiful Danxia Landforms in China"awarded by China National Geographic Magazine in 2005,has become a hot spot.However,language obstacles hinder cultural exchange and cultural differences make it hard for foreign tourists to fully understand and enjoy the visit to the landform.Therefore,interpreters display a crucial role in the process of cultural communication.The author was entrusted by the Shandan County Tax Bureau to be a liaison interpreter for an American tourist,Mr.Davis to Zhangye Danxia Landform on May 24^th.Before the visit,the author reviewed relevant information on Danxia Landform and made a detailed plan according to the schedule provided by the tour guide.The foreign tourist and the author visited Zhangye Dandxia Landform on July 24^th.The whole process lasted four hours.The interpreting at the Danxia Landform went through three processes,before interpreting,while interpreting and after interpreting.According to the characteristics of guide interpreting,the author applied the Interpretive Theory to this task.Also,some interpreting methods such as amplification and paraphrase were adopted according to different situations.This report based on the interpreting practice consists of five chapters.Chapter One introduces the task,followed by a specific description of the task background,characteristics of tourism interpreting and requirements from the entrusting party in Chapter Two.Chapter Three illustrates the three interpreting processes before interpreting,while interpreting and after interpreting,together with tools,theories and methods used for interpreting.Chapter Four explores an analysis of interpreting cases based on the source text.And Chapter Five draws a summary of this task and discusses the related problems,such as interpretation of Chinese cultural-loaded words and cross-cultural issues.Finally,the ways of improvement in the future interpreting work are proposed.
