With the rapid growth of China’s economy, military, science & technology and diplomatic strengths, China is attracting more and more spotlights in the world arena. Nowadays in China, press conferences have become frequent and play an indispensable role in promulgating China’s national policy to the outside world. Culture-loaded words, which have rich cultural connotations, play a very important role in exchanges and communications. This thesis reports on the analysis of culture-loaded words and related interpreting strategies.The Interpretive Theory of Translation was proposed by Seleskovitch and Lederer of Paris School. The theory regards the sense as its core idea. The Interpretive Theory of Translation puts forward that there are three levels of interpreting, namely, comprehension, de-verbalization and reformulation. It is an efficient method to analyze the interpretation of culture-loaded words. The author introduces the definition and classification of culture-loaded words at the beginning. Then, the author briefs the history and development of the Interpretive Theory of Translation and elaborates on its main contents and ideas. Next, from the perspective of Interpretive Theory of Translation, through the analysis of certain concrete examples, the author summarizes some interpreting strategies of different kinds of culture-loaded words. In conclusion, the author sums up the limitations of the interpretation and proposes practical countermeasures to improve interpreting skills.To sum up, it is a meaningful attempt to study the interpretation of culture-loaded words from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory of Translation.
