The students with learning difficulties,in modern academic circles,usually refer to those who are in the normal range of intelligence,but because of different reasons,they cannot adapt to the study life under the conditions of ordinary school education,and eventually leads to academic retardation or poor learning ability that is reversible or essentially reversible and can be transformed under certain remedial education conditions(Zhao Junying,2012:10-11).Students with learning difficulties in English refer to students whose English proficiency cannot meet the grade goals stipulated in the English curriculum standard(Zhang Suping,2014:76).There are students with learning difficulties in any class,and how to help them is an important task to teachers,especially the head teachers.One way to help them is to activate their interest in learning.Interest is the psychological tendency of people to know something or engage in something,and it is an important motivation to promote people to understand things and explore truth.In Herbart's opinion,interest is both an aim to teach and a means to teach.To make sure the quality of teaching,students must have a strong interest in knowledge,thus producing a strong will to act.And how to stimulate the interest of students with learning difficulties has attracted the attention of English teachers for a long time.In order to study the reasons for interest lack of the students with learning difficult in English learning among the rural middle school students,the author conducted a questionnaire survey of 125 students with learning difficulties from five rural middle schools in M city,Jilin province,and interviewed 30 low achievers and 15 English teachers.The specific questions are that what the root cause of interest lack is in English learning among students with English learning difficulties in rural middle schools.The results show that there are five main factors that lead to the lack of interest in English learning among rural middle school students.They are teacher factor,learning content factor,learner factor,family factor and learning environment factor.Based on the above findings,the author proposes strategies to activate these students' interest in English learning.This paper is divided into six chapters.Chapter one is the introduction.The author briefly introduces the research background and question,research significance and overall framework of the thesis.Chapter two is the literature review.In this chapter,the author first introduces the meaning of students with learning difficulties in English and the connotation of interest,and reviews thetheoretical research status of students with learning difficulties both aboard and at home and interest lack at home.In Herbart's view,interest is not only the aim of teaching,but also the means of teaching.The research on students with learning difficulties and lack of interest has increased sharply in China since 2011,but there are few studies on the lack of interest in learning English of the students with learning difficulties in rural middle schools.Chapter three is the research design.In this chapter,the author mainly introduces the purpose,object and method of the survey study.By means of questionnaire and interview,the author studied 125 rural middle school students with English learning difficulties and 15 rural middle school English teachers from M City,Jilin Province.Chapter four is the research results and analysis.The authors used SPSS 24.0 data analysis software to analyze the collected data.Chapter five is the strategies to activate the interest in English learning.The author puts forward some strategies to help students with learning difficulties to improve their interest in English learning.The strategies to activate the interest of rural junior middle school students in English learning are to improve teachers' own professional literacy,to guide students to master the correct English learning methods,to establish a harmonious relationship between teachers and students,and to create a good English learning environment.Chapter six is the research conclusions.The main research findings and limitations are summarized as a whole.It is found that the factors that lead to the lack of interest in English learning of rural junior middle school students are teacher-related factors,learning content factors,learner-related factors,family-related factors and learning environment factors.And the author puts forward three strategies of activating the interest of the students with learning difficult in English learning from three aspects.They are teachers' professional accomplishment,correct learning method and English learning atmosphere.
