A Report On The Translation Of The Civil Judgment Gallerson V. Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company

This report is a translation report of a judgment decided by the United States District Court Western District of Washington at Tacoma.The judgment addresses the motion for summary judgment on the claims of a civil case.Different from the judgments in the general sense,this judgment deals only with the approval or denial of a motion for summary judgment on the claims.This case is concerned with the issues of racial discrimination and disparate treatment at work.Since vocation occupies a large proportion in most people's lives,it is important to know how people in other countries react when facing this kind of situation and how they strive for their equality at work.In the ST,by elaborating the context of the case and analyzing the evidence presented by the parties,the court granted the motion in part and denied the motion in part.With regard to the guiding translation theory and translation principles of this translation,considering that the TT acts as an informative text so that its readers can know about the case and have a deeper understanding of the summary judgment,the translator decided to adopt Nida's dynamic equivalence theory to achieve smooth readability for the TT readers.Through the translation of the ST and the analysis of the translation,the translator hopes to improve her translating skills in legal texts and have a deeper understanding of the civil procedure under common law in the United States.The translator also hopes that this translation could be a reference to similar judicial cases within China and provide suggestions to improve the Chinese judicial system.
