English Translation Of Political Words With Chinese Characteristics From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

In recent years,China's global influence has been expanding in the course of its development and its international status has been gradually improving since China gained remarkable achievements in socialist modernization.More and more countries are paying great attention to China.The Report on the Work of the Government(abbreviated as the RWG in following text)is an important channel for the international community to know more about China and its development.As an important political document,it plays a vital role in spreading the ruling ideas,development goals and policies of the party and state leaders.Political words with Chinese characteristics in the RWG contain unique ideology,value and culture,express the unique political ideas of Chinese society,and reflect the development and changes of Chinese political and economic situation,which can help the world fully understand China's basic national conditions and social development.The success of the translation of political words with Chinese characteristics directly affects the right of China's international discourse,external exchanges and cooperation,furthermore influencing China's international status and national image.Therefore,the analysis of study on English translation of political words with Chinese characteristics in the RWG has practical significance and innovative value.The translation of political words with Chinese characteristics has become a research focus for Chinese and foreign scholars,while it has been mostly analyzed and studied from the perspectives of the Functional Equivalence Theory and the Theory of Linguistic Adaptation.Eco-translatology,as a new translation theory,is the combination of ecology and translatology.This theory mainly introduces these concepts such as “translational eco-environment”,“translational adaptation and selection”,“three-dimensional transformations”,“translator's centredness”,and “degree of holistic adaptation and selection” into translation studies.The emergence of Eco-translatology provides a new perspective for the translation study on political words with Chinese characteristics.The corpus used in this thesis consists of political words with Chinese characteristics as well as their English translation,which are selected from the three latest RWG(2017~2019).Based on the theory of Eco-translatology,this thesis analyzes and studies the translation methods and strategies of political words with Chinese characteristics from the perspective of the “three-dimensional transformation” method of Eco-translatology.Through the case analysis,this study finds that the translator constantly adapts to the translational eco-environment and selects corresponding translation strategies and methods in the process of translation.At the same time,the translator makes adaptive selection transformation to the target text from linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension,taking into account the language form,cultural connotation and communicative intention,thus achieving the high degree of holistic adaptation and selection.This thesis will,through the analysis of C-E translation of political words with Chinese characteristics,demonstrate that the Eco-translatology theory proves to be operational in translating and interpreting,and can explain translated texts from the new perspective.
