A Report On The Translation Of Tourist Texts

Canglü,an ancient village,is located in Fourteen-capital village,Wuxie Town,Zhuji City,Zhejiang Province,gradually catching people's attention with its magnificent view and the simple and elegant hundred-year-old houses built on the mountains.As the early ancestor of Canglü villagers and the great Neo-Confucian in the Song Dynasty,Zhou Dunyi attaches importance to not only how to cultivate people but also how to earn a living,which are handed down from generation to generation.This thesis mainly discusses the translation techniques of tourism texts based on an excerpt of Canglü Annals of Zhou Clan.Guided by some well-known translators' principles,the author analyzes and summarizes difficulties and solutions in translation,helping people get to know this ancient village.The text involves location,local cuisine,business and anecdotes,requiring author to search and read many kinds of parallel texts.With the help of paper dictionaries and electronic materials,the author tries to analyze and summarize key difficult points in the process of translation,which are mainly divided into three levels: vocabulary,sentences and some poetry written by Zhou Dunyi.At the lexical level,the main task is to classify set phrases by part of speech.In the case of the translation of local cuisines,the author utilizes annotation,transliteration plus annotation etc.,to make the translation readable.At the sentence level,in order to reduce redundant information in sentences and rearrange the words order,the author employs a great variety of translation skills,such as omission,reconstructing,translation in original order,and translation in reserve order,etc.The final difficulty is the translation of poetry.For the sake of conveying the meaning in its full flavor,followup explanation and foreshadowing are used.As far as case analysis is concerned,typical examples are given to illustrate the pertinence and rationality of the translated text.Through this translation practice,the author hopes to provide some help for translators and for the translation of similar texts,and to promote the development of tourism in this region.
