Idioms are an integral part of Chinese culture and contain rich cultural connotations.Moreover,although the idiom is partial to written,it is also used by native Chinese speakers in daily oral communication.Therefore,learning idioms is an important way for foreign students to improve their Chinese and understand Chinese culture.Textbooks are the main basis for TCSL teachers to teach idioms and foreign students to learn idioms,so it is of certain research value to study idioms in TCSL textbooks.“Feng Guang Chinese” is a textbook compiled by the school of Chinese as a foreign language where the author works.“Developing Chinese” is a series of textbooks with rigorous arrangement and great influence,and are a set of widely used textbooks.In consideration of practicality and authority,the author selected these two textbooks to make a comparison,and compares the distribution,number,category,presentation,reproduction,and practice of idioms in the textbooks,using tables,examples,questionnaires and other methods to carry out a detailed study.By comparison,the advantages and disadvantages of the two textbooks are analyzed and and textbook writing suggestions are proposed for the deficiencies.This paper is divided into six parts: the first part is the introduction,mainly from the proposal of the subject,the summary of idiom research,the introduction of two textbooks for comparative research,the research content and methods,and the theoretical basis of the research.The second part introduces the general arrangement of idiom in TCSL,which provides reference for the analysis of the two main textbooks.First define the concept of idiom.Secondly,idioms are divided into six categories according to their origin.Combined with the existing research,it is found that in the reading and writing and speaking textbooks,the number of idioms included in the advanced textbooks is large,while the number of idioms included in the junior and intermediate textbooks is small.The number of idioms included in different versions of textbooks at the same level is inconsistent and varies greatly.The recurrence rate of idioms is low in both reading and writing textbooks and speaking textbooks.In addition,the number of idioms in conversation and practice is less than other forms of writing,such as narrative.The third part,from the five aspects of idiom distribution,idiom classification and quantity,idiom presentation method,idiom recurrence distribution,idiom distribution in practice,to make a comparative study of the arrangement of idioms in“Feng Guang Chinese,Intermediate Spoken Chinese”and“Developing Chinese,Intermediate Spoken Chinese”and it is found that there are differences in the number of idioms,presentation methods,recurrence,and practice of the two textbooks.The fourth part is an investigation and analysis of students' mastery of idioms.First of all,through the questionnaire,the international students who use the two teaching materials are investigated separately.The questionnaire not only collected the basic information of foreign students and their views on the arrangement of textbook idioms,but also investigated the objective situation of the idioms mastered by foreign students through the specific topics used in idioms.Finally,by comparing the statistical results of the two groups of questionnaires,this paper analyzes and summarizes the mastery of idioms of foreign students who use the two kinds of textbooks,and their opinions and suggestions on the idiom arrangement of the textbooks.In the fifth part,on the basis of analyzing the situation of idiom arrangement in the two textbooks and the results of the questionnaire,the author puts forward some suggestions on the distribution,category,quantity,presentation,repetition and practice of idiom arrangement in the textbooks.Finally,the conclusion summarizes the research process of this paper and reflects on the shortcomings of the research.
