In recent years,thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong KongMacao Greater Bay Area program,China has formed closer ties with Pacific island countries,which enabled Guangdong province to enjoy more opportunities for cooperation.Against this backdrop,Guangdong University of Foreign Studies organized the 2019 Program for Young Leaders from Pacific Island Countries,which involved participants from Cook Islands,Fiji,Micronesia,Niue,Papua New Guinea,Samoa,Tonga,and Vanuatu.Apart from attending lectures on China's economic development since the Reform and Opening up,the participants also went sightseeing in Guangzhou.As part of the Program,tours to Guangdong Museum and Guangzhou Museum were arranged for the participants to learn about Chinese culture and history.The author interpreted for the tour guides and the participants during the museum tours.This report,based on the interpreting transcripts,analyzes the author's performance to explore how the techniques that had been chosen according to Skopos Theory helped achieve the goals of the translating action.The case study focuses on four frequently used techniques: transliteration with annotation,amplification,paraphrasing and omission.The author then evaluates her performance,specifies several situations where these techniques are applicable and other factors affecting the interpreting activity such as the purposes of the tour guides and the participants,and finally ends with some suggestions for interpreting learning and practice.The author hopes this report can draw some attention to guide interpreting and be of some help to interpreting learners.
