With the booming development of tourism industry driven by globalization, the guide interpretation which is closely connected with cross-boarder tourism is also on the rise. Guide interpretation, especially the high-quality guide interpretation makes a great difference to a country's image-building, cultural transmission and transnational communication. Taking Chinese and western cultural differences as study background, this report analyzes the features of guide interpretation based on the author's personal experience as a guide interpreter in vocation. In addition, it summarizes and refines out several translation strategies in terms of guide interpretation to overcome the barriers of intercultural communication such as unclear expression and misinterpretation. Consequently, more evaluation criterion will be offered for guide interpretation practice to improve the interpreting standards and quality.This report includes five Chapters. Chapter one is the background information of this task and an overview of guide interpretation, namely, the features and translation principles of guide interpretation, as well as the significance of intercultural communication of it. Chapter two focuses on the pre-task preparation, interpreting process and the evaluation of post-interpretation. Chapter three elaborates on the supporting translation theory. After a systematic study of translation theory and a thorough analysis of guide interpreting's feature, the author believes Functionalism, which is based on Skopostheorie is mostly rewarding and contributed to the pragmatic translation like guide interpreting. As the quick part of this report, chapter three also illustrates the cases study in the light of the translation strategies such as translation brief, text function, documentary and instrumental translation, and Skopostheorie under the guidance of Functionalism, aiming at pointing out the translation strategies intended to break the intercultural communicative barriers. In the last chapter, the author concludes the valuable achievements and lessons.With the analysis and summary of personal guide interpreting experience, the author truly hopes this paper can be referential and instructive to other guide interpreter in terms of translation strategies and the solutions for tackling the difficulties and barriers in guide interpreting. And the translation theory can effectively serve more interpreting practice to improve the interpreting quality and correspondingly achieve a favorable intercultural communication.
