This paper is a translation project report of a biography. The original text is excerpted from Chapter One and Chapter Two of the biography: A Woman of No Importance written by a British bestselling author Sonia Purnell. This is a story about World War II,female spies and French freedom. The first two chapters mainly introduces Virginia's family and her childhood.Unexpectedly, she suffered an accident and became a disabled female spy.The biography contains a wealth of historical and cultural information. Therefore, the translator integrated translation theory with practice and hoped to improve translation skills. Moreover,it can help the translator view the unique importance of women in World War II from a female perspective. The stories in the biography are wonderful and the characters are vivid. This book is rich in details which portray Virginia's experience and personality from adolescence to adulthood.According to the type of the original text, the translator chose Peter Newmark's Semantic translation and Communicative Translation. On one hand,in order to accurately reproduce the context meaning of the original text, the translator properly maintained the cultural characteristics of the source language and explained the meaning of the original text.On the other hand, considering the purpose of communicative translation, the author focused on target readers, and attempted to produce on Chinese readers an effect be similar to that acquired on the English readers of the original.Through this translation practice, the translator deeply realized that a qualified translator should pursue a lifelong learning to enrich knowledge in different fields so as to lay a solid foundation for bilingual culture contexts. At the same time, the accumulation of translation experience is inseparable from the support of translation theory as well as long-term and extensive practice.
