With the continuous improvement of China's scientific research, the translation of academic monographs has also played an important role in introducing the latest achievements made by Chinese scholars and their views, and promoting academic exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries. Therefore, the C-E translation of academic monographs has attracted much attention in recent years.Although authors of academic monographs have rich theoretical knowledge, there are inevitably some flaws in their expression, which sometimes makes them difficult to understand.Besides, the large amount of terms and technical content contained in academic monographs also pose a great challenge for translators in terms of comprehension.Based on a case study of the translation of Global Cities, this thesis tries to discuss and summarize the difficulties and corresponding strategies in translating this book through analyzing the initial translation and the final version from three levels of the text: vocabulary, syntax and textual logic. It is concluded that in translating an academic monograph, the translator is advised to: a)verify and analyze all terms in the text to avoid misuse;b)seek explicit explanations of ambiguous sentences by grasping keywords and then using them as clues to search for parallel texts;c)in understanding complex information, take the context into consideration, build a new structure,if necessary, and present information according to a certain logic order, thus making the monograph more reader-friendly.By summarizing translation errors and corresponding solutions, this thesis aims to provide some effective strategies in the translation of academic monographs and help other translators reduce mistranslation in their future practice.
