A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Chapter 12 Of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018

This is a project report on C-E translation of Chapter 12(Ecological Environment)excerpted from Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018,which comprehensively reflects the economic and social development of Jiangsu Province in 2017,as well as the notable achievements of its various undertakings.In recent years,Jiangsu Province has paid more and more attention to the promotion of its culture and launched the English version of Jiangsu Province Yearbook,which is conducive to building up the reputation of Jiangsu,facilitating the going global efforts of the province,and promoting international exchanges.In light of Functionalist Approaches,this report aims to analyze the contents and features of the yearbook.Based on the features of the yearbook,the author summarizes the major issues and difficulties in the lexical level,the syntactic level and the textual level.Specifically,the major issues and difficulties in the lexical level include terms and proper nouns,numeral abbreviations and expressions with Chinese characteristics;the major issues and difficulties in the syntactic level comprise non-subject sentences and long and complicated sentences;the major issues and difficulties in the textual level consist of textual cohesion and textual coherence.The author also finds out the causes of these difficulties,including the lack of professional knowledge and differences between Chinese and English.Then to solve these problems,the author lists some corresponding translation examples and summarizes appropriate translation methods and strategies,thus improving the ability to deal with translation issues.Finally,some inadequacies and advice are put forward and the author hopes to be referential for later yearbook translators and improve the quality of yearbook translation.
