A Project Report On C-E Translation Of China Commerce Yearbook In 2016-2017 (Transcripts)

China Commerce Yearbook,edited by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China,being an important part of China’s commerce information service system,is regarded as a large-scale practical tool and historical reference book that gives a comprehensive description of the development of China’s commerce.The English version of China Commerce Yearbook serves as a useful tool for the readers from research,teaching,information,and consulting department etc.to understand and study the history of China’s trade and investment.Six reports of Local Commerce with a total of about 12,000 Chinese characters are selected as the source text of this translation project which was undertook by MTI office of Southwest University of Science and Technology(hereinafter referred to as SWUST).The translation was adopted and published by Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China after examination and check.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s text typology theory,Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation,this project carries out an in-depth analysis on the C-E translation of China Commerce Yearbook from lexical and syntactic levels and discussed corresponding translation methods.With regard to vocabulary translation,high-frequency words are translated by giving full play to the diversity of words;while the commercial terms in the text are unified in advance.Also,the translator analyzes the translation methods of some commercial words and application of omission,as a translation strategy,in the text.In speaking of sentence translation,the translator adds subject to the non-subject sentences according to the context;when it comes to parallel sentences,they are translated by applying various expressions.Finally,the translator hopes to accurately convey the contents of the yearbook through her own efforts and provides valuable reference information for relevant workers.Meanwhile,the translator also hopes that the exchange between China and foreign countries will be further enhanced to promote economic and trade cooperation and communication with foreign countries,thus facilitating the development of China’s economy by giving full play to regional advantages.
