A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On The Recruitment Of Soldiers

With the development of globalization,legal translation plays an important role in contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to the global governance,and thus it is of great significance to translate laws,rules and regulations into other languages.Against this background,this project report,based on the translation practice of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on the Recruitment of Soldiers,focuses on the issues and difficulties identified during the translation with a view to provide corresponding solutions.The translation difficulties of the project lie mainly in the wide use of expressions with Chinese characteristics,terms related to the soldier recruitment and fuzzy expressions on the one hand,and the repeated use of sentences with the “de(?)” structure,non-subject sentences as well as long and complicated sentences.Guided by the principles of equivalency and accuracy,the author is trying to provide corresponding solutions from the perspectives of lexical and syntactic levels.Official English versions and versions given in parallel texts could be used as references to address the difficulties of translating expressions with Chinese characteristics and terms on the recruitment of soldiers,while equivalent translation could be applied to translating fuzzy expressions.As to the lexical difficulties,methods of converting into conditional clauses led by “where”,“when” and “if” and attributive clauses as well as preposition-object structures and non-finite phrases are adopted to translate the sentences with the “de(?)” structure;the sentences without subjects could be converted into passive voice;rearranging and integrating are effective in translating the long and complicated sentences.Based on the translation practice,the report aims to analyze and summarize the translation difficulties in an attempt to suggest appropriate translation methods,hoping to give a reference for future translations of local rules and regulations.Meanwhile,it is hoped that more emphasis should be put on ensuring the translation quality of local rules and regulations and strengthening the construction of the rule of law,so as to win more international discourse rights for China.
