An Interpreting Project Report Of The �One Paper Industries� Of Victorian Jiangsu Business Placement Program

After mutual exchanges for many years,Victoria,Australia and Jiangsu Province have formed a multi-level cooperation among the governments,chamber of commerce and enterprises.In May 2019,the sixth phase of the Victorian Jiangsu Business Placement Program was held in Jiangsu.The reporter undertook the interpreting project of Australian One Paper Industries and received feedback from the clients.In the process of this project,two types of obstacles turned up within and beyond the language.The former is reflected in the following two aspects: lack of paper industry terminology and related background knowledge;obstacles to Australian accents.The latter is mainly reflected in: psychological factors affecting interpretation notes;inability to accurately understand dual roles.After in-depth reflections and drawing on outstanding interpreters and previous research,the reporter proposed corresponding solutions to the above problems.Interpreting strategies are as follows: First,the reporter must be fully prepared before the project,including collating glossary of technical terms and understanding of relevant background knowledge;reaching out to speakers in advance to be familiar with accents.Second,in addition to interpretation,the reporter should strive to overcome psychological pressure,balance short-time memory and interpreting notes,and correctly understand the dual roles of the interpreter and the coordinator.The paper will provide assistance for interpreters in the field of paper making;it will also enrich the database in this field with growing attention in recent years.
