This is a report on a consecutive interpreting(CI)task conducted by the writer. It is the interpretation of a professional lecture by Prof.Chai Shousheng from The Ocean University of China at the Seminar on Tourism Management for Central and Eastern European Countries in 2017,whose theme is to accelerate the reform and development of tourism in Qingdao and to create a well-known international seaside recreational resort city.It analyzes some problems of consecutive interpreting and discusses possible coping methods.First, the report describes the pre-interpreting preparations for the task, including collecting related knowledge and terms, familiarity with different accents, etc.Second, the report gives a brief introduction to The Interpretive Theory, which provides guidance on CI,the problems involved in CI and the possible methods to solve them.Third,in the chapter of case analysis, examples from the task are introduced to explain the skills of listening comprehension, memorizing and the use of Powerpoint. Two recurring problems in CI,e.g.redundant information and the bilingual mixture of the speaker, are singled out and their solutions are provided.Besides, coping tactics for dealing with misunderstanding and the decoding of unfamiliar words and expressions are also illustrated.Through discussion and analysis, the report stresses the importance of pre-interpreting preparations, keeping a good state of mind, and the application of the Interpretive Theory.
