| Delivering science knowledge in a way loved by masses, the text style of popular science plays an important role in the spreading and communication of science between countries.This report, based at the two features of popular science—scientific and literary, analyzed the use of the strategy of semantic translation and communicative translation on account of Newmark's classification of text type. In this report, the strategy of semantic translation is used in information functional text and communicative translation in expressional functional text,which is the same as Newmark's ideas.However, the ability of the translator and the differences between west and east culture can lead to a condition where the strategy of semantic translation is ideal but can not be used. In addition, the communicative translation strategy focuses on the translated text and the reader and has more methods to achieve so it is usually abide the rules. As a result, the classification of text style can decide the strategy but it is not the only standard. It follows the rules of Newmark and is an ideal choice but against the reality, which needs the translator seek the truth from facts and choose the most fittest strategy. This report, writing in the perspective of translation process,guided by the strategy of semantic translation and communicative translation, used the technique of amplification, division and shift analysis the strategy of semantic translation and communicative translation and is hoped to have successful experiences of others to go by.Firstly, the report describes the introduction of the source text and then there is a brief description of the translation task, including the pre-work and follow-up work. And then is an explanation of the characteristics of the text from the aspect of words, sentences and articles.Next part covers translation strategies, methods and techniques with examples. In the end, there is a conclusion of the translation experiences and thoughts. |
