Kristin Hannah is a famous contemporary novelist in America. Most of her novels are written from the perspective of woman. Some of them are set in the war and aimed at saluting the great women. The translation practice selects the previous four chapters of The Great Alone written by Kristin Hannah. This book is a historical novel with ravishing plots, delicate descriptions and fascinating presentation of the enchanting scenery in Alaska. The previous four chapters mainly describe the main characters of the story and the environment — Alaska, where the story happens. The wonderful descriptions attract readers to follow the plots to know more, offering them a fascinating reading experience and aesthetic experience. In order to give the readers an equivalent reading experience, some translation strategies have to be adopted to reproduce the aesthetic features of the original text under the guidance of functional equivalence. For the reproduction of form beauty, formal translation, extending, cutting, reversing, splitting and grammatical amplification are used. For reproduction of non-form beauty, semantical amplification and recasting are employed. It is expected that these strategies discussed in the report would provide some references to literary translation. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces the contents and language features of the source text. The second chapter mainly tells about the translation three phases: pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter analyzes the aesthetic features of literary text and explains theories of aesthetic translation and functional equivalence. Then,Chapter Four proposes the translation strategies for the reproduction of aesthetical features of the original text. The last chapter is the conclusion of the report, and it also points out the limitations of the report.
