Under the guidance of Reiss‘s Text Type Theory and Nida‘s Functional Equivalence Theory, this paper discusses translation standards and strategies of informative texts based on the translation of the first four sections of Chapter 1 of Communicative Competence,Classroom Interaction, and Educational Equity written by the American educational sociolinguist Courtney B.Cazden.After searching the Internet, the translator finds no Chinese version of the work available in China. At the beginning of translation, the translator analyzes the text type of the source text and the difficulties in translation, based on which the translator solves the problems in translation guided by the Reiss‘s Text Type Theory and Nida‘s Functional Equivalence Theory.Communicative Competence,Classroom Interaction, and Educational Equity involves professional fields such as pedagogy and linguistics,so many technical terms and compound words inevitably appears in this text.In terms of sentence structure, the translator chooses attributive clause to study.Guided by Reiss‘s Text Type Theory, the translator searches a large number of parallel texts to find the exact meaning of technical terms.By adopting the ?plain prose? strategy and proper translation strategies and methods, the content of the source text is conveyed plainly. The strategy is fully used especially when translating the compound words. In order to convey the essence of the original work and make the target language readers feel easy to understand, the translator chooses the Functional Equivalence Theory to guide translation practice. The translator divides the attributive clauses in the text into restrictive and non-restrictive attributive clauses, and employed pre-positioning,post-positioning and blending methods for translation. In addition, attributive clause with adverbial function expresses the relationship between cause, such as result and concession. When translating attributive clause with adverbial function, the translator adopts the method of conversion. After completing the translation exercise, the translator can fully realize the importance of translation theory used in translation practice,so that the content and thought of the original text can be better conveyed, and the translation text can be more acceptable to target language readers.
