The source text of this project report is the first seven chapters of Seven Business Habits That Drive High Performance written by the Australian human resources expert,Nicholas S.Barnett.Through proposing seven business habits, this management book introduces how to develop constructive organisational culture which is conducive to high performance. The translation of such kind of books is valuable to the development of domestic organisational management.According to text typology theory put forward by Katharina Reiss, one of the founders of functional translation, the source text is a combination of informative text and operative text, and the translation should focus on the content and persuasiveness.Hence, the translator completed the project in the principle of “function plus loyalty” put forward by German translation scholar Christiane Nord.In the process of translation, major issues and difficulties at lexical, syntactic and discourse level were solved with various translation techniques. At the lexical level, technical terms,culture-loaded terms and nominalization were addressed through information search, annotation and conversion. As for syntactic level, the translator applied sentence reconstruction and voice transition when dealing with attributive clauses, adverbial clauses and passive voice.Solutions to the cohesion and coherence of discourse were covert cohesion and discourse reconstruction. At last, the translator concluded the findings and limitations, and gave some recommendations for further research of informative and operative text translation.
