"Desperate Singer": A Tragic Interpretation Of Chekhov's Classic Drama

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was a well-known Russian short story writer in the 19 th century and an outstanding dramatist.Chekhov's drama was born in the era of great change at the turn of the century,but Chekhov's thinking on the eternal question of life has surpassed any specific era.The controversy over Chekhov's dramatic genre has never ceased since the day his drama was born.For a long time,scholars at home and abroad have mostly discussed Chekhov's comedic issues from the perspective of accepting Chekhov,and quite a few scholars believe that Chekhov's drama incorporates the elements of tragedy and comedy.This master's thesis takes Chekhov's four classic plays "Seagulls"(1896),"Vaniya Uncle"(1897),"Three Sisters"(1901)and "Cherry Garden"(1903)as the research objects.On the basis of tracing the tragic origins of Chekhov's drama,it explains the universal expression of tragedy in Chekhov's drama,and through the key interpretation of "Cherry Garden",grasp the tragic significance and value of Chekhov's plays.First,through the discussion of the author's socio-political environment,personal life experience,and rational and emotional factors,so as to pave the way for the tragic interpretation of the writer's four dramatic texts.Secondly,from the aspect of content and thought,analyze the tragic reflection in Chekhov's drama creation.Finally,an independent tragic interpretation of Chekhov's deceased work,"Cherry Garden",reveals the tragic significance of the script beyond the times.In the concluding part,this thesis further explains the aesthetic value and practical significance of tragic interpretation of Chekhov's drama creation.Good plays are written for all ages.Classical literary works are like kaleidoscopes that reflect life,with infinite interpretability.This thesis is based on Chekhov's classic plays,from the perspective of tragedy to explore the artistic charm of Chekhov's scripts beyond the times,and feel the eternal social reality.
