Corruption has attracted much attention around the globe,to the point that corruption is routinely a subject of media reports. In Botswana specifically, the media is swamped with reports of allegations of corrupt practices ranging from bribery, fraudulent and shady deals, money laundering and nepotism to mention but a few. This dissertation analyses issues related to perceptions of corruption, its causes, consequences and the corrective measures put in place to fight it in public services in Botswana. It further discusses the impact of corruption on the public service regarding its reputation, trust by the citizenry and service delivery.A survey through questionnaires was used to obtain the public servants' perceptions of corruption from three departments within the public sector which were purposefully selected on the basis of their corruption history.Corruption is perceived as one of the biggest threats to the public service in that it erodes the trust and confidence the citizenry has on the public service;tarnishes the reputation of the public service and also affects the integrity of public service employees negatively. It also suggests that the anti-corruption initiative cannot be independent of the reform of the government.Whatever reform public institutions adopt in trying to curb corruption,it must be aligned to the government's mission and aims;in this instance, should be in line with the strategies of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime(DCEC).If certain reforms are not made, there is a high possibility that corruption continues despite employing anti-corruption measures.
