Construction Of China's International Image

The improvement of China's comprehensive national strength enhances China's international status,but also brings about uncertain risks.At the same time,with the development of economic globalization and world multi-polarization,various countries are connected increasingly closely.Even though there are many common interests among countries,sometimes it can also be regarded as a game among countries.When western media report Chinese events,it also has a certain degree of bias,and it is often unfavorable for China to build its national image on the international stage.For the construction of national image,on the one hand,it depends on the impression of other countries in the international community;on the other hand,it is more important to carry out the active construction by the country itself and actively respond to international challenges while spreading and communicating.Starting from China's own position,this thesis analyzes the national image that China hopes to display on the international stage by studying the speech materials of Chinese state leaders on international occasions.In this study,the speeches made by President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang during their five-year terms from 2013 to 2017 were selected as the corpus materials.Supported by corpus technology,the research combines quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis.The main body of this thesis,guided by Fairclough's dialectical relationship between language and society,starts from the three aspects of high-frequency words,keywords and three-word clusters.It discusses the text results from the social level,and analyzes the overall construction of Chinese international image.The conclusion shows that China has been advocating the establishment of friendly partnership between countries;China tries build a win-win and responsible international image in the face of the “China threat theory” from the western media.Under the reality that international public opinion is still dominated by the west,China cannot passively wait to be “shaped”,but should actively make its own voice and build a positive national image.
